Calvary Chapel Greeneville has bought the Kiser Funeral Home building on West Main Street for $375,000.

The sale was finalized Jan. 28, according to Pastor Gary Hall.

Calvary Chapel Greeneville is currently located on Snapps Ferry Road in a former tile and carpet store.

Kiser Funeral Home, at 401 W. Main Street, has over 12,000 square feet of finished space, a sanctuary, 90 parking spaces and a prime downtown location.

That compares with Calvary Chapel Greeneville's current location at 1217 Snapps Ferry Road, which has 3,000 square feet and few parking spaces.

"We've outgrown our current facility, gone to two services and need space in all areas of ministry," Hall said Monday.

The pastor said, "We'll try to be in by April 1, after we do some minor remodeling, which will include bringing its bathrooms up to code and some other fairly minor work."

Calvary Chapel Greeneville, which is known for its expository, or Bible verse-by-verse teaching, has been at its current location on Snapps Ferry Road for 11 years. Hall was sent from Calvary Chapel Hemet in California to plant the church in Greeneville in 1997.

Hall said the mission of Calvary Chapel Greeneville is, "Teaching God's word and reaching out in love."

The pastor said the church plans to have a building dedication in the former funeral home that will be open to the community.

Kiser Funeral Home was closed late last year and its operations combined with the former Rose Hill Funeral Home.
